Musical intent goes a long way for a solo artist, not to mention when they are accompanied by others of their kind. The innocent act of playing tunes just to hear them and to make others grin is the direction for many musicians, and for some, the drive. When you are the soloist in your musical venture, it is always that much more difficult to change up your sound and keep the variety flowing.
Difficult, yes. Impossible? Not at all.
How will a musician in such a spot make that leap to diversity? Well, if you wanted an answer from a true musician (I can play the harmonica…I think?), then I would suggest asking Adam Skinner, a local Barrie musician with many musical colors, so to say.
A melodic vocal sound combined with the down harmonica sound, some rock influence of course, would best describe the jams projected from Adam’s musical aura. The upbringing presence he brings makes the performance comparable to musicians well-known, as he is a true natural.
From what I have seen, he is a very charismatic, upbeat individual who projects these characteristics through his music. Whether it be the music itself, or the fact that his energy levels soar above and beyond, bottom line: Good show!
I think I speak for many when I say there is nothing more enjoyable then witnessing the ability of a musician who can crank up and tune down, when appropriate. Confused? Let me put it this way, Adam is the man you see hyping our excitement for a good old rock song, but then he comes at you with a powerfully emotional acoustic piece from a whole new direction. From a rock jam where we can all sing along, to a calming, thought provoking folk sound that keeps your mind at ease, he’s got it covered. Talent will always get you far, of course, but what gets this musician even farther is…innovation. This is purely a guess on my part, but I think it is about right.
Not really considering himself an ‘artist’, Adam is the type whose musical incline is so natural it is odd for him to hear himself defined by such a title. I disagree, but that’s just me. I know those of you reading this will feel similar to me in regards to Adam’s ‘artist’ entitlement. Clearly he has a modest outlook on the gifts he gives so unknowingly to us, the viewers, but we love it. So Adam loves it.
When describing the lyrical content of the music Adam creates, it is said to be all about the flow of the process, very organic. As one idea develops, the next comes forth and the sound is born. What sounds right is right and the true meaning develops in time with thoughtful consideration. In my opinion this is the best creative process that can occur, one thought opens many new doors that lead you in many directions. There is no planned perspective of the works in progress, and yet pieces fall into place. Like I said, a true natural.
Aside from making his music solo and playing in the band Atlantis Blueprint, Adam is involved in other projects that are relevant to his music. For this artist, music is a significant factor in many factors of his life. Adam runs a recording studio in Toronto that is currently being developed further and also takes an interest in directing, possibly entering film school in the future. Having these additional skills in the music industry takes a musician to the next level of understanding, a definite benefit. Adam has a strong passion for learning, expanding his mind to absorb new options and knowledge in his life. Such a driven individual can only accomplish great things.
